Is it worth getting window film installed in my Dubai apartment to reduce heat?

Window film is one of the best value upgrades for a Dubai apartment with significant west or south-facing glazing. For a Business Bay apartment with floor-to-ceiling west-facing windows, the impact can be very noticeable. Quality solar control window film rejects 60-80% of solar heat gain before it enters the room. This directly reduces the load on your AC. In a Dubai summer, where AC accounts for a large proportion of electricity bills, this translates to real savings on your DEWA bill. Many residents report a reduction in AC running time of 20-30% in the hottest months after film installation. Film also blocks 99% of UV radiation, protecting furniture, flooring, rugs, and artwork from fading. This is a significant benefit in Dubai's intense sun and protects your belongings whether you own or rent. Cost in Dubai: professional window film installation typically costs AED 35-100 per square metre depending on film quality and glass type. For a 2-bedroom Business Bay apartment with large windows, expect AED 1,500-4,000 total. Premium ceramic films last 15-20 years with minimal degradation. Is it worth it? For most Dubai apartments with significant west-facing glazing, yes. The energy savings and comfort improvement typically justify the cost within 2-3 years. For rental apartments: window film is generally considered reversible and does not require landlord permission, though it is worth checking your tenancy agreement. It can be removed cleanly by a professional. Key metric to ask for: heat rejection percentage (TSER). Ask for the manufacturer's data sheet, not just the salesperson's word.
