How do I get rid of silverfish in my Dubai apartment?
I keep finding small fast-moving silver insects in my bathroom and in my wardrobe in my Dubai apartment. I think they might be silverfish. How do I get rid of them and is this something I can handle myself?

Silverfish thrive in warm, humid environments and Dubai apartments provide near-ideal conditions. While not dangerous to people, they cause real damage to books, paper, clothing, stored fabrics, and food packaging.
They are attracted to moisture and starchy materials. Common hotspots in Dubai apartments are bathrooms, under kitchen sinks, inside wardrobes storing natural fabrics, and bookshelves. They are nocturnal and fast-moving, so an infestation is often well established before you notice it.
DIY measures that actually work:
Reduce humidity consistently. Run your AC regularly and fix any plumbing leaks. Silverfish populations collapse when humidity drops. Ensure bathroom exhaust fans are working.
Seal entry points around pipes, skirting boards, and wall junctions using silicone sealant.
Store books, documents, and fabrics in sealed plastic containers.
Diatomaceous earth applied around entry points and in cupboard corners is safe, effective, and does not harm pets or humans. Available in UAE garden centres.
Cedar blocks or sachets in wardrobes act as a natural deterrent.
When to call a professional: if you are seeing silverfish in multiple rooms or regularly over several weeks, a professional treatment is the most efficient solution. Professional pest control in Dubai uses targeted gel bait and residual spray in affected areas, reaching places DIY sprays cannot.
All pest control companies in Dubai must be licensed by Dubai Municipality. Ask for the licence number before hiring.
