Can fly screens be fitted to any window type in a Dubai apartment?

In most cases, yes — fly screens can be fitted to virtually any window type found in Dubai apartments, though the mounting method varies depending on the frame. The main window types and how screens are typically fitted:

Sliding windows are the most straightforward — a sliding or fixed panel screen simply runs in a track alongside the existing window. Casement windows (that open outward on a hinge) work best with either a hinged screen frame or a magnetic/Velcro-fit screen. Fixed windows don't open and don't need screens. Aluminium-framed windows, which are standard across most Dubai buildings, are easy to retrofit because screens can be secured to the frame with minimal modification.

For apartments with unusual window configurations — floor-to-ceiling glass panels, curved frames, or windows set into thick concrete surrounds — custom-fabricated screens are usually required, which costs more but gives a clean finish.

Retractable fly screens are a popular option for Dubai apartments as they roll away when not in use and don't obstruct views. They work well on sliding and casement windows and are widely available in Dubai.

Installation is usually straightforward and takes 30–60 minutes per window. Costs range from AED 80–200 per standard window for fixed screens, up to AED 300–600 per window for retractable systems. Most suppliers will visit to measure and quote at no charge.

Always confirm the installer will fix to the frame and not the wall, to avoid lease complications in rental properties.
