How do I stop my artificial grass from getting too hot to walk on in Dubai summer?
We have artificial grass in our Dubai villa garden and in summer it gets so hot the kids and dog can't use it. Is there anything we can do to bring the surface temperature down, or is this just an unavoidable problem with artificial grass in this climate?

This is a common complaint for Dubai villa owners in summer — artificial grass in direct sunlight can reach surface temperatures of 60–75°C during the hottest months, making it uncomfortable or impossible for children and pets to use barefoot.
Here are the most effective ways to manage it:
Cooling infill: standard silica sand infill holds heat effectively. Switching to or supplementing with a cork or organic cooling infill can reduce surface temperature by 10–20°C compared to standard installations. Some specialist suppliers in Dubai offer infill replacement as a service for existing grass.
Shade: the most effective solution is simply shade. A pergola, shade sail, or mature tree canopy over part of the garden significantly reduces the surface temperature of the grass underneath. Even partial shading makes a practical difference — a mix of shaded and unshaded areas gives more flexibility.
Watering: briefly rinsing the artificial grass with water before use can reduce surface temperature by 15–25°C within minutes. The effect doesn't last long in extreme heat but works well as a pre-use treatment for children playing outdoors in the early evening.
Light-coloured grass: if you're installing new artificial grass, choosing a lighter colour tone (natural green rather than dark forest green) reduces heat absorption measurably. Dark shades absorb significantly more solar radiation.
Timing: in Dubai's peak summer months (June–August), the grass is most usable from 5pm onwards once direct sun has moved off it, and early morning before 8am. Planning outdoor use around these windows is the most practical approach regardless of other interventions.
